It was a pretty defensive-minded game for most of the night. The Prescott and Douglas girls soccer teams were tied 1-1 with 13 minutes left in regulation. But with five minutes to go before overtime, Violet Williams put the ball into the net to give the Lady Badgers the lead. Prescott held on the rest of the way for the 2-1 victory in the opening round of the 4A Conference State Tournament Wednesday. Williams ended the night with a goal and an assist, as did Alana Gilray.

The number three seeded Lady Badgers are home again Saturday to face number eleven Saguaro. Prescott opened the season against the Lady Sabercats and beat them 5-0. The game begins at noon at Bill Shepard Field, where several Prescott athletes, local firefighters, and members of the community helped clear snow from Wednesday afternoon so Prescott could have their game on their home field.
