Alto Pit Closed Due to Thinning Operations

2/22/24

Prescott National Forest officials have closed the Alto Pit Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area and its associated trails due to thinning operations being performed in that area. Crews are thinning 42 acres of trees as part of the Blackjack Stewardship Project, located north of Iron Springs Road. Thinning operations are expected to continue for the next month.

The goal of this project is to improve the health of the forest and reduce hazardous fuels that pose a threat to life and property in the wildland-urban interface.
