Prescott area Congressman Eli Crane aims to increase veteran employment in federal land management jobs. He, along with fellow Congressman Mike Levin of California, introduced the Hire Veterans Act. The bill seeks to enhance the hiring process for veterans for positions within the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, and the Bureau of Land Management.
Specifically, the bill establishes a five-year pilot program to conditionally appoint veterans who have demonstrated the necessary skills and abilities for specific vacant positions at federal land management agencies. Additionally, the bill directs the Office of Personnel Management to submit an annual report to Congress on the effectiveness of the program.
Crane asserts that federal land management agencies have faced staffing challenges over the past decade, and this bill should mitigate that issue.
