Yavapai Softball Thumps Gateway

3/20/24

They began the season by losing their first seven games. Now, the Yavapai College softball team is in the middle of a hot streak. The Lady Riders were at Gateway College Tuesday and absolutely owned game one of the double-header. Samara Romero gave up just four hits while striking out eleven as YC got the deke 8-1. Meghan Kelly drove in three runs and Torie Au smacked a home run.

The Geckos generated a little more offense in game two, but not enough to overcome Yavapai, who won it 13-5. Au and Emmersyn Villa both socked three-run homers. Amanda Pay had a two-run bomb. Bradshaw Mountain alum Brina Lankford had a two-run single.

YC has won five of its last six games and is 8-11 on the season. They are off the rest of the week and host Mesa College next Tuesday.
