A pair of Yavapai College students earned spots on a prestigious team. Collin Newberry and George Smith were selected to the 2024 Coca-Cola Academic Team. Both students were already members of the All-Arizona Academic Team. Newberry is studying both psychology and philosophy at Yavapai. He is also the founder and president of the school’s Psychology Club. Smith is studying engineering and also volunteers at the college’s food pantry.

The scholarships from the All-Arizona Academic Team and the Coca-Cola Academic Team will allow the pair to transfer to any Arizona university tuition-free. Newberry plans to transfer to the University of Arizona, and Smith plans to continue his education at Arizona State University.
