Suspected Gang Members Plead Guilty to Rodeo Shooting, Homeless Assault

The Yavapai County Attorney’s Office reports two suspected gang members have pleaded guilty to separate crimes that took place last year. Seventeen-year-old Prescott Valley resident Enrique Castillo-Barrios pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault, endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and minor in possession of a firearm. On April 29th of last year, Castillo-Barrios shot at a classmate at the Prescott Rodeo Grounds. As he fled the scene, Castillo-Barrios accidentally shot himself.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Prescott resident Johnathan Mata pleaded guilty to assisting a criminal street gang, aggravated assault, and tampering with physical evidence. Mata viciously beat an elderly homeless man along Granite Creek on June 30th of last year.

Castillo-Barrios is scheduled to be sentenced next Monday. Mata’s sentencing is set for May 13th.
