One final meet for the season, and it will be against the best in the state, from all divisions. The Open State Track and Field Meet takes place today and tomorrow at Mesa Community College. Several local athletes qualified for the big meet.
For Prescott, Aubrey Kitahata, Wylie Monnett, Kenzie Blanchard, and Violet Williams will compete in both the girls 4X100 and 4X400 relays. The foursome won the state championship in the 4X400 in the Division Three State Meet and were runners-up in the 4X100. Libby Hlavacek earned a spot in the girls pole vault. A freshman, Hlavacek was the runner-up in the event for Division Three. Finally, there’s Rylee Hobson. She qualified in the girls javelin, an event she placed third in at the Division Three State Meet.
Chino Valley has two athletes at the Open State Meet. They are Quenton Metz and Tony Hacke. They will compete in the boys 1,600-meter run and 800-meter run respectively. The pair were runners-up in those events at the Division Four State Meet.
