Prescott area Congressman Eli Crane joined several Republicans and a few Democrats in voting to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson. The effort, however, failed to garner enough votes from others in the U.S. House of Representatives, with 359 members voting against Johnson’s ouster. Forty-three voted in favor of his removal.
Prescott’s former Congressman Paul Gosar also voted to remove Johnson from the Speaker’s position, though he admitted the timing of the motion was wrong with the presidential election six months away. Johnson drew the ire of many Republicans for his support of the latest aid package to Ukraine to aid that country in its war against Russia.
