Prescott City Council Approves Public Safety Tax for Ballot

The Prescott City Council Tuesday approved putting the proposed public safety tax on the November ballot. If approved by voters, the transaction privilege tax of 0.95% will take effect on April 1st, 2025. It will then be reduced to 0.75% on December 31st, 2035.

Prior to the vote, the question was brought up of why the funds from the tax will go into the general fund and not a dedicated fund for public safety. City Finance Director Mark Woodfill explained:
