Five-Time Felon Convicted on Weapons Charges in Yavapai County

A man with five prior felony convictions was found guilty of weapons misconduct by a Yavapai County jury late last week.

County Attorney Dennis McGrane says on December 21 of last year, 28-year-old Kyle Austin Johnson of Jerome was involved in a traffic stop in Prescott. The officer learned that Johnson, who was the passenger, had several outstanding arrest warrants. He was also carrying a 9mm handgun in his waistband at the time. A further background check showed Johnson had five prior felony convictions and served time in prison in two states.

Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced on June 24. He faces anywhere from two to 12 years in prison.
