City of Prescott Hiking Tips

Heading into the peak of hiking season, pun intended, Prescott Recreation Services wants to remind everyone to properly prepare for their hiking adventures.

Before heading out, research trails, check weather conditions, and pack essentials like water, snacks, a map, and a first-aid kit. Wear appropriate gear including moisture-wicking clothes and supportive footwear. Remember to hydrate regularly and start early to avoid the heat. Most importantly, hike with a buddy when possible.

The Prescott Trail System, also referred to as the Mile-High Trail System, contains approximately 100 plus miles of trails including the Peavine Trail that runs along the former Santa Fe Railroad, the Prescott Circle Trail system, the Greenways Trails System, and the Dells Trails around Watson and Willow Lakes.

While safely hiking the trails, always follow the “Leave No Trace principles” to preserve your local natural habitats.
