Hurricanes Cause National Shortage of IV Fluids

A North Carolina plant that makes 60 percent of the country’s IV fluids used in healthcare settings is offline due to recent hurricanes. That means they’re in short supply for U.S. hospitals.

When contacted by KYCA about this issue, officials with Dignity Health Yavapai Regional Medical Center would not agree to a phone interview. They did send out a press release, which reads, “We have implemented conservation procedures of IV fluids that do not impact patient care. With more than 140 hospitals within our organization nationwide, we are working to leverage our size and share supplies to help manage any potential disruptions and ensure optimal patient care.”
