The fire danger in the Prescott National Forest is back up to high. It was moderate last week. This change is due to worsening drought conditions in Yavapai County, where most of the area is either in severe drought or moderate drought.
Everyone is urged to take precautions when camping or hiking. Ensure your campfire is completely out and the ashes are cool to the touch before leaving. If you smoke, properly discard your cigarettes and avoid throwing them into grass or brush. When driving, check that no chains are dragging from your vehicle, as they can create sparks. Additionally, do not park on grass, as the heat from your vehicle can ignite vegetation.
There is little relief in sight for the high fire danger. The National Weather Service predicts only one day of rain in the next week, with a 20 percent chance for precipitation on Tuesday.
