A barn burner to start the week for the Chino Valley boys basketball team. The Cougars were in Surprise last night to take on Highland Prep. It was a low-scoring affair through the first three quarters, but in the fourth quarter, the Honey Badgers’ offense roared to life and posted 18 points. The Cougars stayed close to them, but in the end, fell short 49-41. Landon Smith was Chino’s leading scorer with 15 points.
The loss puts the Cougars’ record at 0-2 on the young season. Chino Valley is back in action Thursday with another road game at Bourgade Catholic. The Cougars’ three-game road swing ends next Monday when they remain in Yavapai County to play at Camp Verde. Chino Valley returns home next Tuesday to face Parker.
Also on the hardwood yesterday, the Embry-Riddle men took care of Stanton 87-63. Noah Gifft and Jake Klingler both registered 18 points, with Gifft grabbing ten rebounds. Peter Dress put up 12 points.
