A Mayer mother and stepfather were arrested on January 2nd for child abuse and endangerment.
Investigators began looking into the couple after the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Phoenix Children’s Hospital. They reported that the five-year-old child was brought in with several bruises and cuts, a puffy face, and a broken femur, in addition to being malnourished. The mother told the hospital the child had fallen out of bed.
Both the hospital and DPS told the sheriff’s office the injuries did not align with the story. After learning this, YCSO detectives investigated the couple, leading to their arrest.
The sheriff’s office says the child is recovering and doing well.
