YC Softball Goes Undefeated at Great Western Shootout

The Great Western Shootout in Yuma proved to be the Yavapai College softball team’s time to shine. The first game of the tournament Thursday was a pitcher’s duel between the Lady Riders’ Mackenzie Durr and Southern Idaho’s Ella Farrell. The two hurlers allowed a combined nine hits, but Olivia Boswell drove in the lone run of the game to give Y-C the 1-0 victory. Durr fanned nine in a winning effort.

Yavapai generated a little more offense in Friday’s game as they got the Deke over Chandler-Gilbert 6-2. Tamryn Tucker drove in two runs. Ivannya Perez had a triple and an RBI.

The Lady Riders wrapped up the Great Western Shootout Saturday with a 9-4 win over North Idaho. Durr notched her second win of the tournament, striking out nine again. Bradshaw Mountain grad Brianna Baca tripled and drove in two runs. Boswell went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Yavapai is now 5-3 on the season.
