The Great Western Shootout in Yuma proved to be the Yavapai College softball team’s time to shine. The first game of the tournament Thursday was a pitcher’s duel between the Lady Riders’ Mackenzie Durr and Southern Idaho’s Ella Farrell. The two hurlers allowed a combined nine hits, but Olivia Boswell drove in the lone run of the game to give Y-C the 1-0 victory. Durr fanned nine in a winning effort.
Yavapai generated a little more offense in Friday’s game as they got the Deke over Chandler-Gilbert 6-2. Tamryn Tucker drove in two runs. Ivannya Perez had a triple and an RBI.
The Lady Riders wrapped up the Great Western Shootout Saturday with a 9-4 win over North Idaho. Durr notched her second win of the tournament, striking out nine again. Bradshaw Mountain grad Brianna Baca tripled and drove in two runs. Boswell went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Yavapai is now 5-3 on the season.
