To protect public health and safety, as well as to prevent resource damage during winter storms, the Prescott National Forest has implemented temporary road closures this week for Senator Highway, and in the Horsethief Basin and Big Bug Mesa areas. These closures will remain in effect through March 1st, unless rescinded earlier.
Vehicle travel during wet weather in both areas has historically resulted in numerous stuck vehicles and deeply rutted roads. Stuck vehicles threaten the safety of both passengers and search and rescue personnel. Damage to roads can make them impassable and is costly to repair.
You can find maps of the areas where roads are closed on the Prescott National Forest website – fs.usda.gov/prescott and on the Prescott National Forest Facebook page.
