After dropping their first two matches of the season by identical scores of 8-1, the Bradshaw Mountain boys tennis team was in desperate need of a pick-me-up. They got it Thursday at Fairfax, and got it in dramatic fashion. The contest went down to the wire, with the Bears pulling it out 5-4.
One of the most impressive wins of the day came from freshman Joseph Holtzman at number five singles. After dropping his first set 6-0, he came back to win the next two 6-0 and 10-6. Holtzman and Cody Shapley – another freshman – also scored a big win at doubles with a final score of 8-5.
It was a different story on the girls’ side for Bradshaw Mountain. They lost to Fairfax 6-3. Lucy Keyes and Maggie Grzelak were winners at number one and two singles, respectively.
Bradshaw Mountain takes on ALA Gilbert North next Thursday. The boys are on the road, and the girls are home.
