Let’s see how some former Yavapai College baseball players are doing in the pros. Close to home, Merrill Kelly has been doing well for the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 17 starts, he is 7-4 with a 3.49 ERA, 100 strikeouts, and 26 walks in 98 innings.
Kirby Yates, now in his eleventh major league season, has appeared in 31 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 4-2 record, a 3.91 ERA, two saves, 38 strikeouts, and eight walks in 25 innings.
Willie Calhoun is in the Mexican League, playing for Quintana Roo. He’s hitting .262 with six homers, 31 RBIs, seven doubles, and 22 runs scored in 53 games.
John Taylor got picked up by the Texas Rangers organization and assigned to the Single-A Hub City Spartanburgers after spending the first part of the 2025 season with the independent Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. In 52 games with them, he hit .288 with eight home runs, 28 RBIs, eleven doubles, four triples, 49 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases.
