Prescribed Burns Planned for Big Bug Mesa

Prescott National Forest officials announced prescribed burns will take place on Big Bug Mesa throughout September. The burns involve piles left over from recent fuel reduction projects.

Smoke may be visible from Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Dewey-Humboldt, and surrounding areas. As temperatures drop at night, smoke may settle into valleys and drainages.

Drivers are urged to use caution near burn areas—slow down, turn on headlights, and watch for fire crews and equipment.

The prescribed burn aims to reduce hazardous fuels in the forest and protect communities from large wildfires. Burns are dependent on weather conditions.
