YCSO, CCSO Team up to Find Lost Hikers

A joint effort between the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office and the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office was initiated Saturday night after a family became lost while hiking.

YCSO officials report the family began their hike at the Jacks Canyon Trailhead in Yavapai County, but emergency coordinates showed them several miles into Coconino County. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office immediately contacted the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue.

After initiating contact, responders found each agency was working the same call and decided to combine resources. Responders were deployed to the area and were able to locate the missing hikers exhausted but safe.

Sheriff’s Office officials say the incident highlights the dedication of Search and Rescue volunteers and interagency collaboration.
