ADOT Gives Advice for Travelers for Thanksgiving Holiday

With Thanksgiving travel expected to peak, ADOT is urging drivers to plan ahead and stay alert on state highways. No major construction closures are scheduled from Wednesday afternoon through Monday morning. Still, drivers should expect heavy traffic on routes like I-17.

The good news is the newly opened flex lanes between Black Canyon City and Sunset Point will be open to help ease northbound traffic through Saturday. The lanes will switch to southbound use Sunday.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid peak times, check vehicles before departing, and pack emergency kits.

Last Thanksgiving weekend, ten people died in crashes statewide, four involving alcohol. ADOT officials remind drivers to stay rested, drive sober, and be prepared for unexpected delays.
