1944: One of the most lopsided games in NHL history. Detroit obliterated the Rangers 15-0. Both Murray Armstrong and Don Grosso recorded two goals and three assists for the Red Wings.
1983: It was like playing in a swamp. Miami defeated the Jets 14-0 in the AFC Championship Game on a soggy field. The game became known as “The Mud Bowl.”
1984: The birth of Hulkamania. Hulk Hogan won his first World Wrestling Federation championship when he beat the Iron Sheik at Madison Square Garden. That first championship run of the Hulkster lasted four years.
Time to wish a happy birthday today to . . . former Cleveland Browns running back Eric Metcalf, who’s 58. Detroit Red Wings Hall of Fame winger Brendan Shanahan is 57, and New York Jets Hall of Fame center Kevin Mawae is 55.
