The first month of the year is not over yet, but it’s already been a busy one for the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Forest Patrol Division.
The agency reports forest patrol deputies have conducted 18 search and rescue operations since the start of the new year. Many of these operations have occurred in areas that are difficult for vehicles to access. The most recent of these rescues involved a man in Mayer whose ATV tumbled into a wash.
Anyone who goes into the backcountry of Yavapai County should bring extra food and water, warm clothing, a first aid kit, and a fully charged cell phone.
