1980: A milestone win. New York Knicks coach Red Holzman earned his 600th win in a 107–103 triumph over Golden State. He was the second head coach at the time to reach that amount of wins.

1990: What a blowout this was. San Francisco nuked Denver 55–10 in Super Bowl XXIV. The Niners’ Joe Montana threw five touchdown passes, three of them to Jerry Rice.

1996: A Super Bowl in the desert. Dallas knocked off Pittsburgh 27–17 in Super Bowl XXX at Sun Devil Stadium. The Cowboys’ Larry Brown had two interceptions and was named the game’s MVP.

Happy birthday today to former St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Bill White, who’s 92. Ex–Chicago White Sox outfielder Magglio Ordonez is 52. Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Dante Culpepper is 49. WWE superstar Sheamus is 48. Former New England Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski and former Philadelphia 76ers small forward Andre Iguodala are both 42.
