Track and field season is underway, and our local high school teams put in some excellent performances at two meets over the weekend. On Friday, Bradshaw Mountain and Chino Valley competed in the Boulder Creek Invitational. The Cougars had two third-place finishers, with Matt Sibole in the boys javelin and Zoi Nagel in the girls 3,200-meter run. Eliana Metz was fourth in that race. For the Bears, Kayden Espinoza finished fourth in the boys 110 hurdles. In the girls 100-meter hurdles, Kameryn Nuttall and Naomi Schifferli were fifth and sixth respectively. Sara Harmon placed sixth in the girls 1,600-meter run.
Saturday was the Shadow Ridge Showcase, and Prescott was one of the teams in attendance. For the defending state champion girls squad, Libby Hlavacek won the pole vault and was sixth in the high jump. Audrey Delaney finished third in the 3,200-meter run, and Aubrey Kitahata was fourth in the 400-meter run. For the boys, Rutger Funk was second in the discus and fourth in the javelin, and Will Townsend finished fourth in the 800-meter run.
