1991: They needed a fifth frame to determine a champion. Tennessee outlasted Virginia 70-67 in overtime for the women’s basketball national championship. It was the first overtime championship game in the history of the NCAA women’s tournament.
1992: A milestone for this NBA coach. Cotton Fitzsimmons guided the Phoenix Suns to a 128-11 win over Portland. That was the 800th win in Fitzsimmons’ career.
1997: They brought a championship to the desert. The UofA men’s basketball team overpowered Kentucky 84-79 in overtime to win the national title. On their way to the championship, Arizona became the only team to defeat three number one seeds in the tournament.
