A California man has been found guilty of stealing items from a Cottonwood grocery store and possessing drugs. The Yavapai County Attorney’s Office announced that Octavious Jones of Palm Springs was found guilty in Yavapai County Superior Court last Thursday.
A surveillance camera captured Jones stealing several items from the store. Cottonwood Police soon found Jones, who admitted he planned to resell the stolen merchandise. Police also discovered 50 grams of fentanyl and 14 grams of meth in his car.
County Attorney Dennis McGrane said, “While prosecutors in places like New York City and San Francisco are often in the news for turning a blind eye on shoplifters and organized retail thieves, my office will aggressively prosecute thieves and others who choose to commit crimes in Yavapai County.”
Sentencing for Jones is scheduled for May 13. He faces a minimum of four and a half years in prison.
