It has not been open for quite a while, but that’s about to change. The Fort Whipple Museum in Prescott will have its grand reopening May 3. The museum has been shut down ever since the COVID-19 pandemic. Initial hours of operation will be limited to Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A 20th anniversary celebration for the museum is also planned for May 17.
The Fort Whipple Museum features exhibits showing the history of medical care in Prescott, as well as the fort’s interaction with the local community. Fort Whipple started out as a base of operations for the Indian Wars of the 1860s before transforming into a military hospital.
