Sports Extra May 6th, 2024; ERAU Baseball Wins Cal Pac Title, State Champs for TF Teams

Local scoreboard from the weekend, in post-season action, the Embry-Riddle baseball team overpowered Benedictine-Mesa 9-7 to win the Cal Pac Championship for the first time in their three-year history. Drew Barragan homered and drove in four runs. Javier Izaguirre drove in a run and scored three runs. The Eagles will play in the opening round of the NAIA World Series, which starts May 13th.

State track and field meet, for Division Four, the Chino Valley boys 4X800 relay team of Javier Johns, Quenton Metz, Landon Smith, and Tony Hacke won the state championship. Also for the Cougars, for the boys, Metz was runner-up in the boys 1,600 meter run and Hacke was runner-up in the boys 800 meter run. Boys – Michael Colasuonno was fourth in the pole vault. Girls, Danielle Graham was fourth in the 400 meter dash. 4×800 relay team (Zoi Nagel, Eliana Metz, Carlee Murphy, and Graham) was fourth. Madison Dey was seventh in the shot put. Murphy was eighth in the 3,200 meter run and ninth in the 1,600 meter run.

For Division Three, Prescott’s 4X400 girls relay team of Aubrey Kitahata, Wylie Monnett, Kenzie Blanchard, and Violet Williams won the state championship. Also for the Badgers, those same four girls also finished second in the 4X100 relay. Libby Hlavacek was second in the pole vault. Williams was third in the 100 meter dash and fifth in the 200 meter dash. Rylee Hobson was third in the javelin. Blanchard was third in the 300 hurdles and tied for sixth in the high jump. Anna Brown was fourth in the pole vault. As a team, the Lady Badgers were fourth in state. For the boys, Luke Mason was fourth in the javelin. Bradshaw Mountain’s Giselle Serrano was fourth in the girls 100 hurdles and Kenzie Sullivan was sixth in the girls pole vault.

Indoor football, the Northern Arizona Wranglers lost to the San Diego Strike Force 54-45. Joshua Jones threw four touchdown passes.
