Don’t Leave Your Dog in Your Car

The heat is rising in the Tri-City area, and the Prescott Police Department wants to remind everyone not to leave their dogs in their vehicles. On an extremely hot day, the temperature inside a car can rise by 20 degrees in the span of ten minutes. This can prove fatal to your pet if they are left in a vehicle. Prescott police officials say leaving the windows of your vehicle cracked open is not enough to keep your car cool and protect your dog. They say the best thing you can do is leave your pets home where it is cool and safe.

While it is not illegal to have your dog in your car, if you do leave them there on a very hot day, it could be considered animal cruelty and you could face fines and legal action. If you see a dog in distress inside a car, call Prescott Animal Control at 928-445-3131.
