Monday’s storms proved the monsoon is in full swing in the tri-city area. With more rain expected this week, the Prescott Police Department has some tips for driving safely through heavy rain. First, make sure your windshield wipers are in good working condition and replace them if needed. Do not drive fast and maintain a safe distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you. Do not brake suddenly, and avoid areas of the road where water is pooling.
When monsoon storms hit, municipal crews will usually close off low water crossings. When that happens, do not drive around the barricades. Arizona has the Stupid Motorist Law, which means if you drive through a flooded area and become stuck, you could pay for the cost of your rescue.
