Heat Exhaustion a Problem at Watson Lake

Recent incidents at Watson Lake have highlighted the dangers of hiking in extreme heat. Crews from Prescott Fire Department’s Engine 74 recently assisted a patient and their pet suffering from heat-related issues while hiking in the Watson Lake area. Additionally, Engines 73 and 75 responded to multiple calls involving heat exhaustion.

To ensure your safety and the safety of your pets, fire officials urge everyone to follow this advice:

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your hike. Carry extra water for yourself and your pets.

Dress Appropriately: Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing. A hat and sunglasses can provide additional protection from the sun.

Use Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, and reapply it every two hours.

Plan Ahead: Check the weather forecast and trail conditions. Avoid hiking during peak heat hours (usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.).
