Recently, the Water Rescue Rodeo took place on the Salt River, involving six search and rescue teams from across Arizona. One of the units participating was the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Back Country Unit. They not only participated, they won the event.
The Water Rescue Rodeo features several challenges, including boat handling, strong tethered swimmer, kayak operations, technical rope rescue systems, throw bags, throw line launcher, and mock water rescue scenarios.
The Yavapai County Back Country Unit is made up entirely of volunteers.
