A man in Diamond Valley was arrested Saturday afternoon after barricading himself in his home and threatening a neighbor. According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the home of 73-year-old Virgil Neigel after receiving a report he threatened someone from the elder care facility next door, prompting the facility to be put on lockdown.
Negotiators tried to convince Neigel, who the sheriff’s office says has a history of aggravated assault and threatening police, to come out of his home. Neigel refused and reportedly told dispatchers he was intoxicated, would not go back to jail, and would use deadly force on law enforcement. The sheriff’s office and Prescott Valley police deployed their quick response team to enter the home. A K-9 unit found Neigel hiding behind a wall holding a hatchet.
Neigel was arrested and taken to the hospital for serious intoxication and injuries sustained while being taken into custody. He is charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and threatening or intimidating.
