She was not living in Yavapai County, but that did not prevent detectives with the Sheriff’s Office from arresting her. YCSO officials report a person in Prescott had their computer hacked into, resulting in $40,000 stolen from their bank account. The Sheriff’s Office soon learned the money had gone to 64-year-old Maria Rivera from Carrollton, Texas.
YCSO detectives went to Texas and teamed up with Carrollton police to arrest Rivera at her place of work. Authorities also searched Rivera’s home and discovered evidence of other fraud schemes she was involved with.
Carrollton police have filed charges against Rivera, and because her crimes crossed state lines, federal authorities have been notified.
