Firefighters have gotten a handle on the Thompson Fire burning near Skull Valley. The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management reports the blaze is 90 percent contained. The fire burned 112 acres in mostly rough and inaccessible terrain.
Crews have also made progress on the Freeman Fire in Southern Arizona. It is now 85 percent contained after burning more than 32,500 acres. The Verde Valley Fire District sent a water tender to help battle the Freeman Fire.
