Interstate 17 Detour

The Arizona Department of Transportation is alerting drivers about a temporary change at Coldwater Road under I-17 near Black Canyon City. Starting Tuesday, July 30, at 5 a.m., the space under the bridge will be three feet shorter, only 13 feet 6 inches high. This reduction will last for about five weeks because workers are making the bridge wider.

From Monday, July 29, to Saturday, August 3, Coldwater Road will be closed under the bridge each night from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. workers need to put up supports and equipment to help with the bridge work.

Drivers with tall vehicles should follow detour signs. On July 29, July 30, and august 2, if you’re going north on i-17 and need to get west of Coldwater Road, take the Bumble Bee Road exit, then get back on i-17 heading south. If you’re going south and need to get east of Coldwater Road, exit at Rock Springs/Black Canyon City, then go back north on I-17. The same detours apply for July 31 and August 1, but with an extra exit option at sunset point for northbound drivers.
