The Prescott Valley Police Department is reporting an increase in the number of scam calls involving fake arrest warrants. The scammers claim the person they are calling has a warrant out for their arrest and must make a payment using gift cards, bitcoin, or cash apps in order to resolve it. Some of these calls will show the number of a legitimate law enforcement agency on the caller ID.
Prescott Valley police officials say law enforcement agencies will never ask for payment over the phone. Should you receive such a call, hang up and call your local police department.
