This week is Child Passenger Safety Week. The Prescott Police Department, in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is urging parents and caregivers to ensure that their child passengers are secured in the correct seats for their age and size.
Correctly buckling your child in the right seat can be lifesaving. In 2022, over a third (39%) of child passengers who lost their lives in crashes were unrestrained. The importance of using car seats cannot be overstated—they reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants under 1 year old and by 54% for toddlers aged 1 to 4 years old in passenger vehicles.
NHTSA.gov offers many free resources to help parents with child passenger safety.
