The lack of rain and the high temperatures have increased the fire danger in the Prescott National Forest. It now stands at very high, after being listed as high for the past couple of weeks. While no fire restrictions are in place in the forest, everyone is urged to take precautions when out camping or hiking.
Make sure your campfire is completely out and ashes are cool to the touch before you leave. If you smoke, you must properly discard your cigarettes. Do not throw them into grass or brush. When driving, check that no chains are dragging from your vehicle as they can throw out sparks and start roadside fires. Also, do not park on grass, as the heat from under your vehicle can ignite the vegetation.
