Fire Danger in Prescott Nat’l Forest Now Extreme

With hardly any rain in Yavapai County over the past month, the risk for a wildfire is greater than ever. Prescott National Forest officials have raised the fire danger to extreme. It was listed as very high last week.

While no fire restrictions are in place in the forest, everyone is urged to take precautions when out camping or hiking. Make sure your campfire is completely out and ashes are cool to the touch before you leave. If you smoke, make sure to properly discard your cigarettes. Do not throw them into grass or brush. When driving, check that no chains are dragging from your vehicle as they can throw out sparks. Also, do not park on grass, as the heat from under your vehicle can ignite the vegetation.
