Recent Hurricanes Show the Importance of Flood Insurance

The Yavapai County Flood Control District is using the example of Hurricane Helene to urge people to get flood insurance. District officials say thousands of uninsured homes were in the hurricane’s path, and the ones damaged by floodwaters will have to rely on complicated federal programs for aid.

While hurricanes very rarely impact Arizona, Yavapai County is prone to flash flooding from monsoon storms. Most homeowners insurance policies do not cover flooding, so it is a good idea to get a policy from the National Flood Insurance Program.

Information about purchasing such a policy is available online at floodsmart.gov.
