Christmas may be over two months away, but if you want to cut down a tree in the Prescott National Forest, the time is now. Christmas tree permits will only be offered online through Recreation.gov beginning today, October 10th. This season, 700 permits will be available forest-wide. Permits will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis until they are gone.
Make sure to carefully read the overview and need-to-know information prior to purchasing your permit. Visitors will also need to set up or log in to a Recreation.gov account to complete the transaction.
• No cutting prior to November 1st. The permit will allow the holder to cut a tree within designated cutting areas between the dates of November 1st through December 31st.
• Each Christmas tree permit is $20 and allows permit holders to cut a tree up to 10 feet tall.
• A customer may purchase only one tree permit, which is intended for his or her family.
• Permits are for personal use only.
