Prescott Man Found Dead in Coconino County

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office says they’ve found the body of a Prescott man who didn’t return home after a camping trip near Jacob Lake. His truck was found the next day in Lake Havasu City, and a man from Tennessee who was in the truck was shot and killed by police there after he fired at them.

Coconino County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jon Paxton says detectives found the campsite, but no sign of 66-year-old Russell Vinton:

The Sheriff’s Office isn’t releasing any information on where the body was found, but they say they are investigating the case as a homicide. Paxton says their detectives visited the campsite and found items there that raised suspicions, though they are not sharing what those items were.

Vinton’s camper trailer, a white 2017 travel trailer with Arizona license plate 5LA50N, is still missing.

The man killed in Lake Havasu City has been identified as 61-year-old Patrick Champion.
