It’s playoff time on the pitch. Some of our local soccer teams begin their run through the post-season today. Chino Valley opens the state tournament with an afternoon home match on their turf versus Benson. The Cougars go into the game ranked number one in the state and 11-0 in their power point games. The Bobcats, meanwhile, are ranked number eight and are 7-4 in power point games. Kick-off is 2 p.m.
Also in the Tri-City area tonight, the Yavapai College men’s soccer team faces off against Eastern Arizona at 7 p.m. The Roughriders enter the game with a 5-5-2 record, while the Gila Monsters are 5-4-3. In their two regular season meetings, Yavapai has a win and a tie against Eastern.
Tomorrow, the Yavapai College women’s soccer team heads to Yuma for their playoff game versus Arizona Western. The Lady Riders are 6-6-5 and the Lady Matadors are 14-0. Y-C lost its two regular season matches to Western by identical scores of 4-0.
Local scoreboard from yesterday, in volleyball, Prescott dispatched Mingus 3-1. The Lady Badgers are on a four-match winning streak. Bradshaw Mountain swept Lee Williams 3-0. Ava Lee made eleven digs. Chino Valley lost to ALA West Foothills 3-0. Eva Sanchez registered four kills and seven digs.
