Pregnant Woman Assaulted in Prescott, Loses Unborn Baby

Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the Prescott area on Sunday for a report of a domestic dispute. The initial investigation revealed that a Prescott man had thrown his pregnant wife to the floor. During the altercation, there was trauma to the woman’s abdomen. The husband was arrested for assault charges and booked into the Yavapai County Jail.

The woman refused medical attention on scene, but admitted herself to the hospital after the incident, where she was informed that the 6 to 8-week-old unborn child was deceased. The unborn child had shown signs of viability just a few days prior.

Based on that information as well as other information gathered during the investigation, the county attorney’s office added an attempted homicide charge against the husband per Arizona state law.

Further investigation is being conducted which could result in additional charges.

To protect the identity of the victim, YCSO is not releasing the name of the suspect at this time.

Sheriff David Rhodes stated- “The sheriff’s office would like to extend condolences to the woman who lost her child. I am always grateful to the men and women of the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office who always fight to protect the most vulnerable among us and by holding violent perpetrators accountable.”
