The chances of a major wildfire breaking out in the Prescott National Forest have gone down. Thanks to Sunday’s rain and cooler temperatures, the fire danger in the forest is now moderate. Just last week, the fire danger was high.
Even with the reduced fire danger, everyone is urged to take precautions when out camping or hiking. Make sure your campfire is completely out and ashes are cool to the touch before you leave. If you smoke, make sure to properly discard your cigarettes and do not throw them into grass or brush.
When driving, check that no chains are dragging from your vehicle, as they can throw out sparks. Also, do not park on grass, as the heat from under your vehicle can ignite the vegetation.
