Parts of Thumb Butte and Granite Mt. Closed for Raptor Breeding

Restrictions on climbing and other activities are now in place at Thumb Butte and Granite Mountain. This is being done in order to protect the nesting sites of peregrine falcons. The birds have been nesting at these locations for 25 years, and the closures ensure they are not disturbed while they raise their young.

Maps of the closure areas are posted throughout the Thumb Butte and Granite Mountain recreation areas. The closure is expected to last until July 15th.
