A special meeting of the Prescott City Council convened Tuesday afternoon related to a citizen petition received by the council at the November 19th, 2024 voting meeting and was submitted by Bonnie McMinn and Rod Moyer. Council was considering adopting an ordinance to be placed on the August 5th election ballot, with the question of amending the Prescott City Charter for purposes of protecting city-owned open space in perpetuity.
City Council chambers were overflowing as many residents, along with representatives from numerous environmental, preservation, and conservation groups, gave their input on how to protect city-owned open space.
In the end, council voted 6-1 to continue the item to its February 25th voting meeting, with direction to the city attorney to draft the ordinance with the modifications that were discussed in Tuesday’s 2-hour and 20-minute meeting.
